PSL 2027 (HBL PSL 12): Start Date, End Date, Teams, Schedule, Auction and Everything You Need to Know

The Pakistan Super League 2027, officially branded HBL PSL 12, is the twelfth season of Pakistan's biggest cricket league. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that it will be played from Thursday, 18 March 2027 to Sunday, 2 May 2027, with all eight franchises returning for a second straight season.

Final

Sun 2 May 2027

This guide pulls together what is officially confirmed about PSL 2027, what is still to be announced (fixtures, venues, auction date), and the background you need: the defending champions, last season's records, the squad-building rules, the clash with the IPL, past winners and more. We will keep this page updated as the PCB releases new information.

Quick note on accuracy. PSL 12's tournament window, team list and squad-building framework are confirmed. The match-by-match fixture list, venues, ticketing, broadcast details and the auction date had not been announced at the time of writing (18 October 2026). Be cautious of websites that publish a "full schedule" now, because any fixture list circulating at this stage is a guess, not an official PCB release.

When Does PSL 2027 Start and End?

The PCB announced on 8 October 2026 that HBL PSL 12 will begin on 18 March 2027 and the final will be played on 2 May 2027. According to reports, the dates were finalised at the PSL Governing Council meeting in London on 1 September 2026, attended by owners and representatives of all eight franchises.

Some early reports pointed to a 19 March start, but the official window announced by the PCB opens on 18 March.

Compared with the last two seasons, the 2027 window is a familiar one:

  • PSL 10 (2025): 11 April to 25 May
  • PSL 11 (2026): 26 March to 3 May
  • PSL 12 (2027): 18 March to 2 May

PSL 12 therefore starts about a week earlier than PSL 11 and finishes at almost exactly the same point in the calendar. Until 2024 the league was traditionally held in February and March.

Which Teams Will Play in PSL 2027?

All eight franchises from the 2026 season are confirmed to return:

  1. Islamabad United
  2. Karachi Kings
  3. Lahore Qalandars
  4. Multan Sultans
  5. Peshawar Zalmi
  6. Quetta Gladiators
  7. Hyderabad Kingsmen
  8. Rawalpindiz (also written Rawalpindi or Pindiz in some media coverage)

PSL 11 was the first season with eight teams, after the league grew from six. Hyderabad Kingsmen made their debut in 2026 and reached the final in their first season, while Rawalpindiz were the other newcomer.

Franchise names and ownership have changed several times during the expansion, and media reports have used different spellings. Check the official PSL website for the final branding before publishing team pages.

Defending Champions: Peshawar Zalmi

Peshawar Zalmi go into PSL 2027 as the reigning champions. They beat debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets in the PSL 11 final at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on 3 May 2026. It was Zalmi's second title and their first since the inaugural 2017 season, ending a nine-year wait. The winners received a cheque of US$500,000.

Zalmi were dominant across the 2026 league stage. They finished top with 17 points from 10 matches, winning eight, losing one and having one match abandoned, with a net run rate of +2.324. Their campaign was driven by the batting of Kusal Mendis and Babar Azam and the wicket-taking of leg-spinner Sufiyan Muqeem, who took 22 wickets in 11 matches, the most of any bowler in the tournament.

PSL 11 (2026) Recap: What Happened Last Season?

Understanding PSL 11 helps explain what to expect in PSL 12.

  • Dates: 26 March to 3 May 2026
  • Matches: 44 matches in total, played in Karachi and Lahore
  • Champions: Peshawar Zalmi
  • Runners-up: Hyderabad Kingsmen
  • Final attendance: 32,461, the highest in HBL PSL history
  • First-ever player auction: held on 11 February 2026, replacing the old draft; 888 players registered, and the most expensive player went for PKR 8.65 crore
  • League standings: Zalmi finished first (17 points), Islamabad United second (13), and Multan Sultans third (12). Hyderabad Kingsmen, Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings all ended on 10 points, with Hyderabad taking the fourth playoff place on net run rate
  • The final: Hyderabad were bowled out for 129, the lowest total ever in a PSL final, and Zalmi chased it down in the 16th over, with Hardie finishing unbeaten on 56 off 35 balls

The league stage ran to 40 matches (ten per team), followed by four playoff matches. Rawalpindiz had a difficult debut season, winning only once after a long losing run.

The PCB described PSL 11 as a landmark year, and the 2027 announcement leans on that: eight teams, an auction, and record crowds.

PSL 2027 Squad Building: Retentions, Direct Signings, Trade Window and Auction

This is the stage the PCB says comes next, and it is where most of the news will come from between now and March. The PCB has confirmed these steps will follow, but exact dates are not yet announced.

1. Retentions

Players who were retained or bought at the PSL 11 auction were placed on two-year contracts covering both PSL 11 and PSL 12. Under the framework reported after the dates announcement, franchises can retain up to seven players from their 2026 squads. Anyone not retained returns to the player pool.

2. Direct signings

Each franchise can make one direct overseas signing outside the regular auction, provided the player did not feature in the previous PSL season.

3. Trade window

Franchises will be able to trade players with each other to rebalance their squads. In 2026, the transfer window ran from 12 to 18 March, after the auction.

4. Player auction

A player auction is confirmed as part of the PSL 12 recruitment programme, but the PCB has not released its date, venue or player list. Registration typically opens a few weeks before the auction, after retentions and the trade window.

Overseas player rules

Teams can have five to seven overseas players in their full squad, and three to four foreign players can play in the XI.

Some reports also describe a larger "grand auction" after PSL 12 with up to five retentions per team, as the two-year contract cycle ends. This had not been formally detailed in the latest announcement, so treat it as unconfirmed.

PSL 2027 Schedule: What Do We Know About the Fixtures?

The official match-by-match schedule has not been released yet. The PCB has said fixtures, venue allocations and ticketing details will be announced later.

In previous seasons, the PCB has typically published the full fixture list roughly a month or two before the opening match, after the player auction. For PSL 10, for example, the board sent a proposed schedule to franchises before it was made public. Based on that pattern, expect the PSL 2027 fixture list to arrive between January and February 2027.

What to expect from the schedule

  • Opening match: 18 March 2027, with the location to be confirmed. Lahore hosted the opening game and the final in 2026.
  • Final: Sunday, 2 May 2027.
  • League stage: With eight teams, PSL 11 used 40 league matches (ten per team). PSL 12 is expected to follow a similar structure, though this is not yet confirmed.
  • Playoffs: Four teams qualify for the playoffs, leading to the final.
  • Match timings: Earlier seasons used a mix of afternoon and evening games, with double-headers on some days. The 2027 timings will depend on the final fixture list.

We will publish the official fixtures table here as soon as the PCB releases it.

PSL 2027 Venues

Venues for PSL 12 have not been confirmed. For context:

  • PSL 11 (2026): All 44 matches were held in Karachi (National Bank Stadium) and Lahore (Gaddafi Stadium). Lahore hosted the opener and the final.
  • PSL 10 (2025): Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Multan Cricket Stadium and National Stadium Karachi were used.
  • PSL 9 (2024): Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan hosted matches.

The PSL 11 schedule was first announced with six venues, including Faisalabad and Peshawar for the first time, but the matches were ultimately staged in just two cities. Whether PSL 12 returns to a multi-city model is one of the biggest open questions. Cities such as Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad and Peshawar are all possible candidates.

Tournament Format and Playoffs

The PSL is a Twenty20 (T20) competition. The league stage is followed by playoffs, with the top four teams qualifying. The final is the last match of the tournament.

  • Points: Teams earn points for wins, and net run rate separates teams on equal points. In 2026, three teams finished on 10 points, and net run rate decided the last playoff berth.
  • Playoffs: The top four teams advance to the playoff stage, which uses a page-playoff-style structure with qualifiers and eliminators.
  • Final: To be played on 2 May 2027.

The PCB has not announced any change to the playoff format for PSL 12.

PSL 2027 vs IPL 2027: The Scheduling Clash

PSL 2027 will once again overlap with the Indian Premier League. Reports say it will be the third consecutive year that the two leagues clash, after 2025 and 2026. Until 2024, the PSL was usually held in February and March, before the IPL.

What this means in practice:

  • Overseas stars contracted to the IPL may be unavailable for PSL, which affects the auction and direct-signing pool.
  • The PSL auction and retention strategy is shaped by which foreign players are free from the IPL window.
  • Broadcasters and sponsors will compete for the same audience attention in April.

The wider international calendar is also busy. Pakistan have an ODI series in England listed to start on 15 May 2027, soon after the PSL final, and other tours and tournaments (including the Asia Cup in June) are on the 2027 calendar. National team players' availability will depend on the final tour schedule.

How to Watch PSL 2027

Official broadcast and streaming partners for PSL 12 have not yet been announced. In recent seasons, A Sports has been the main Pakistani broadcaster (for example, in 2024), with international broadcasters and digital platforms carrying the league abroad. We will update this section once the PCB confirms the 2027 partners.

PSL 2027 tickets

Ticketing details are also pending. In recent seasons, tickets have been sold online and through selected outlets once the schedule is released. Expect ticket announcements shortly after the fixtures are published, with prices varying by stadium and enclosure.

Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars lead with three titles each, followed by Peshawar Zalmi with two. A fourth title for either of the leaders, or a first for Hyderabad Kingsmen, Rawalpindiz or a repeat for Zalmi, are the main storylines to watch.

Storylines to Watch in PSL 12

These are our own talking points, not predictions or official statements.

  1. Can Zalmi defend the title? No team has dominated like Zalmi did in the 2026 league stage, but they will need to hold their core together through retentions.
  2. Hyderabad Kingsmen's second season. After reaching the final on debut, expectations are high, and their retention choices will be closely watched.
  3. Rawalpindiz' rebuild. The team had a tough debut year and will want to use the trade window and auction to reset.
  4. Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United are each chasing a fourth title and a place at the top of the all-time list.
  5. The IPL clash. The availability of overseas stars may shape who wins the auction.
  6. Crowds and venues. After a record final attendance of 32,461, the PCB will want to keep stadiums full, which makes the venue plan important.
